Coronavirus Update: 50 new cases detected in Karachi

Amidst concerns that coronavirus infection was yet to peak in the province Sindh reported two more relevant deaths on April 8, pushing the tally of corona deaths for the province to 20, against country’s overall 58 deaths.
The Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, in his regular message on the subject of coronavirus, shared that two more patients expired between April 7 and April 8. He, however, did not disclose any further details of the two deceased, while data released by the Sindh Health department suggested that the casualties took place at Karachi.
While sharing the data related to the coronavirus outbreak in the province, the Chief Minister stated that the provincial government was making efforts to increase its virus testing capacity so that more and more cases could be identified.
According to Sindh health department data, 50 new cases were detected in Karachi during 24 hours ending at 8 am on April 8, while 11 patients were cured in the city, taking the number of patients who recovered the diseases to 736.
In all 10,981 people have been tested across the province since February 26, out of which 1,036 have tested positive for coronavirus. There were 736 virus infected patients under treatment, 382 in home isolation and 97 in government isolation centres while 257 were being treated at private and public hospitals.
The Sindh Chief Minister also held a meeting with a delegation of medical experts from China, who urged him to ensure social distancing among the people, otherwise spread of infection could not be controlled. The visitors shared their experiences to contain the coronavirus and said that they in China had observed strict lockdown and had been able to contain the virus.
