KARACHI: Sindh, showing relatively a lower daily COVID-19 infection rates in recent days, continued registering related deaths in significant numbers as the authorities in the government on July 15 confirmed deaths of another 25 patients during the last 24 hours, with 1,140 new infections.

Based on last 24 hours disease reports, the Sindh Chief Minister’s statement, issued in the afternoon, said that the latest 25 deaths had pushed the overall provincial tally of COVID-19 deaths to 1,888.

On the other hand, the Sindh health department website, updated around 7 pm on July 15, showed the tally of deaths as 1,920.

Sindh’s daily infection rate came as 10% on July 15, against 12% on July 13 and 14, compared to 17% on July 12, 13% on July 11 and 14% on July 10, while the overall provincial infection rate came as 18% out of total 604728 samples tested across the province since February 26 when Sindh reported its first COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile another report of the Sindh government, updated on July 13, revealed that 12, including nine in Karachi, of the 25 designated COVID-19 testing laboratories, did not perform any test on the previous day.

Sindh has added an average of 33 COVID-19 deaths daily to its overall tally since July 5. The details about hospitalization or treatment of 25 patients who expired during the last 24 hours could not be known as the authorities or department maintained a silence on the subject.

However, a summary of off-ventilators deaths in Pakistan disclosed that five patients died at home in Sindh on July 12.

The Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, in his daily COVID-19 statement said that there at present were 36,733 active patients across the country, out of which 736 were in critical condition.

“As many as 106 were put on ventilators, out of 1,116 patients receiving care at various hospitals in the province. Of the 108,913 people infected with COVID-19, 70,292 have recovered the diseases,” he added.

On July 15, Karachi reported 522 new cases, followed by Hyderabad (56), Tando Allahyar (36), Khairpur (35), Thatta (29), Naushero Feroze (27), Larkana (25), Jamhsoro (25), Shaheed Benazirabad (23), Sanghar (22), Sukkur (22), Shikarpur (20), Badin (18), Jacobabad (15), Tando Muhammad Khan (13), Dadu (12), Umerkot (12), Suijawal (11), Mirpurkhas (11), Matiari (7), Kambar Shadadkot (4), Ghotki (4) and Kashmore (2)–PNFS
