Coronavirus Update: Pakistan 424, Sindh 212

KARACHI: Sindh exactly added a half to country’s total of new COVID-19 cases on September 2 when it registered 212 cases, out of 6,351 samples, during the last 24 hours, with six new relevant deaths, across the province.
Pakistan’s tally of daily infection stood at 424, with 10 new deaths, on September 2. In all 21,744 samples were examined at the various laboratories during the last 24 hours in the country.
According to reports, Sindh, having a total laboratory capacity of testing 14,940 samples per day, examined not over 6,500 samples daily during the last week.
Its daily figure of tests ranged 5,247 to 6,482 during the period from August 27 to September 2.
During the last 24 hours, ending at 8 am on September 2, LUMHS laboratory at Hyderabad, tested the maximum 3,175 samples and found 19 new cases, while Indus Hospital laboratory at Karachi examined 1,017 samples and found 94 new positive cases, followed by AKUH (363, with 19 new infections), KU-PCMD Karachi (334, 10), LNH Karachi (224, 14), DUHS Karachi (216, 30) and others.

With the registration of more cases on September 2, Sindh’s daily infection rate rose to 3.35%, while the overall tally of infection reached to 129,827, ie 12.75% of the 1,018,013 samples tested since February 26 when the disease erupted in Sindh.

The Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, in his daily COVID-19 statement, shared that 123,605 patients have recovered from the diseases, while 3,807 were receiving the treatment at homes (3,492), at isolation centres (six) and hospitals (309), adding that as many as 140 patients were stated as critically ill, while 15 were on ventilators.

Karachi, where the daily infection rate was witnessed increasing again, registered 147 (69.33%) positive case till September 2 morning, followed by Thatta (9), Badin (6), Sanghar 93), Sujawal (3), Shaheed Benazirabad (3), Tando Mohammad Khan (2), Ghotki (2), Jacobabad (2), Matiari (2), Jamshoro 1), Khairpur (1), Larkana (10), Mirpurkhas (1), Tando Allahyar (1), Umerkot (1) and others.

In the meantime, Sindh’s overall death tally reached to 2,415 on September 2, when the East and Central districts of Karachi registered two new deaths each, followed by Hyderabad (1) and Karachi Korangi (1)–PNFS
